Bio

"Steve Livingston is a father, accomplished business owner, and a commonsense conservative who proudly represents Alabama's 8th Senate District.

A graduate of Scottsboro High School, Senator Livingston attended the University of Alabama before returning home to Jackson County in 1981. There, he became the owner of The Fuel Center, Inc. (formerly Discus Oil Company), a distributor of Chevron Gasoline and Lubricants.

As a first-time candidate, Steve Livingston was elected to the Alabama Senate in 2014 to represent Jackson, Madison, and DeKalb counties. After being re-elected in 2018 and 2022 by the voters of Senate District 8, his Republican colleagues elected him Majority Leader of the Alabama Senate in 2023.

Growing up working on his family's small cattle farm and earning the rank of Eagle Scout instilled in Steve the values of hard work and future planning. He draws on those early experiences to prioritize outcomes over arguments and always puts the people of Alabama first.

With an eye for problem-solving, Steve has a proven record of fighting for Alabama's hardworking families and small business owners, supporting law enforcement and farmers, bringing opportunities to rural Alabama, and taking a stand against government overreach.

During his tenure in the Senate, Senator Livingston has worked to cut taxes, expand access to affordable and reliable high-speed internet across Alabama, and spearheaded the transformation of the Alabama Department of Labor into the Alabama Department of Workforce Development to ensure Alabamians can enter the workforce and secure skilled, good-paying jobs.

Steve's advocacy and leadership have been recognized with several honors, including being named to GOPAC's 2019 Emerging Leaders Class and being listed on Yellowhammer's 2024 Power & Influence List as one of Alabama's 50 most influential leaders.

Active in his community, Steve is a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the trustees. He is the former president of the Greater Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, a long-time member of the Scottsboro Rotary Club, and a founding member of Leadership Jackson County. He has served on various boards, including The United Way, Boy Scouts of America, and the board of directors of FNB Bank of Scottsboro. Above all, Steve is proudest to be a dad to his two children, Laura Ann and Jager — both graduates of the Scottsboro City School system and Auburn University — and a grandpa to his five grandchildren."
