Bio
State Senator Dan Roberts represents Senate District 15, which includes portions of Jefferson and Shelby Counties. He has served in the Alabama Senate since 2018. Senator Roberts currently chairs the Contract Review Committee and the Shelby County Local Legislation committee. He also sits on the Senate committees for Rules, State Governmental Affairs, Healthcare, Banking & Insurance, Children & Youth Health, Finance & Taxation Education, Fiscal Responsibility & Economic Development and Permanent Legislative Committee on Reapportionment.
A graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction, Roberts began his career with Blount International, working in Alabama, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia. He later earned a Master of Science in Real Estate Development and Urban Affairs from Georgia State University, where he launched a successful international trading company with an office in South Korea. He went on to work with Jim Wilson and Associates in Montgomery before founding his own real estate sales and development firm in Birmingham.
Roberts’ service extends beyond the Legislature through involvement in the Entrepreneurs Round Table, Alabama Policy Institute, Young Business Leaders, Campus Outreach International and College Golf Fellowship. He also serves as an Elder at Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
Senator Roberts was married to his late wife, Anne, for 42½ years before her passing in early 2022 from Covid-19. Together, they raised three sons who are now married and have blessed them with eight grandchildren. He married Kelly Kolen in 2024, who has four children and two grandchildren of her own. Together, they share a loving, blended family.
